Cavender Buick GMC West

SAN ANTONIO ushered in a ravishing, relentless storm that our dealership definitely felt the heat of. During our last storm saturated with colossal-sized hail, over 750 of our vehicles were damaged. This storm system has been properly coined as a “Hailpocalypse,” and recent storm reports show that we may be experiencing another costly round.
The latest storm to move through the north side of SAN ANTONIO estimated over $1.3 billion in damages, making this the most expensive storm in Texas history. According to the Insurance Council of Texas, vehicle insurance loss accrual is expected to reach up to $560 million, and businesses and homes are expected to reach up to $800 million in damages.
Severe weather accompanied by damages and exorbitant expenses is a taxing situation to be in as most of us are still feeling the effects of the first round. Mother Nature will always take its own course, but we can take premeditated measures to ensure we’re adequately prepared and safe as possible.
Here are a few tips and tools on how to prepare for storms:
- Create emergency plan
- Waterproof first-aid kit
- Up to three days worth or more of perishable food items
- Portable radio
- Phone charger
- Medication
- Idle items for activities (books, games, toys, etc.)
- Blankets
- Pillows
- Torch
- Gather essential documents and papers -- especially insurance documents
